Skyline Gondola
In 2016 Skyline Enterprises Limited commenced the process of a $200 million dollar re-development of the iconic Queenstown Gondola and Restaurant.
SPG was the planning consultant for two substantial resource consent applications which sought to replace the existing four seater gondola with a new ten seater gondola, build a new, larger base terminal to accommodate the larger gondola cabins and increased visitor capacity, replace and extend the existing restaurant building on Bob’s Peak by approximately 50%, and to construct a multi-storey car park building with a four hundred space capacity.
Both the resource consent applications progressed via a planning process called ‘Direct Referral’ and following a period of public notification, were heard before the Environment Court.
The resource consents were ultimately granted by the Environment Court and earthworks and construction are now well underway having commenced in 2019 with the removal of over 2,800 wilding conifers from beside the Gondola line and the change over to the new 10 seater gondola completed in July 2023.
