Mitre Peak Cruises

Mitre Peak Cruises has been offering day trips on Milford Sound for over 18-years. Offering regular two-hour trips through the fiord and out into the Tasman Sea, they give their guests the opportunity to enter Milford Sound from the outside, approaching it just as the first sealers did at the end of the 18th century.

The trips are undertaken on two vessels M.V. Mitre Peak and M.V. Mitre Peak II with capacities of 60 and 75 passengers respectively. Both vessels were purpose built for the waters of Milford Sound and make great viewing platforms particularly for the fur seal colonies, Fiordland crested penguins or pods of dolphins that are often encountered.

SPG has provided planning services to Mitre Peak Cruises by obtaining their resource consents for commercial surface of the water activity from Environment Southland and helping to navigate the approval process required to get these consents on a non-notified basis.

SPG has also assisted in obtaining the required Marine Mammal Viewing Permit from the Department of Conservation which allows the company to offer these incredible viewing experiences whilst protecting New Zealand wildlife.

Alpine Guides Limited

Alpine Guides was first established in 1966 as "Alpine Instruction Ltd". The main business was running instruction courses out of Ball Hut at Mt Cook, but the company's roots stretch back to the great NZ guiding era of the 1880's to 1950's. The Hermitage guides of the Mt Cook area established a tradition of professional service, technical skill, and sound judgment - which Alpine Guides carries through to today.
